The Snowy Owl (Bubo scandiacus) is the national bird of Quebec and is one of the largest owls, weighing up to 6.5lbs.
Found in the Arctic during the Summer, it will migrate south, to Canada, in extreme weather.
A large nest, built on the ground, fairly high, to give good hunting views is common, although the Snowy Owl will also make use of other large bird's nests.
Their staple diet is small mammals, swallowing small mammals whole, while tearing larger ones to pieces with strong talons.
